The Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Houston Downtown (UHD) is seeking applications for three tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level for the Spring/Fall of 2008.    The PhD or ABD in Criminal Justice or a closely related field (Justice Studies/Administration or Criminology) is required for the position.  Our preference is that the PhD will be earned by the time employment begins.  However, ABDs who are near completion are encouraged to apply.  Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated teaching experience in a university level criminal justice program and a scholarly research agenda.  All candidates must have an interest in teaching in a multi-ethnic, multicultural environment.  Responsibilities include teaching in an open enrollment undergraduate program and a restricted enrollment Master’s program.  All faculty members are expected to participate in the department’s distance education program, which includes off-campus face-to-face instruction, an online degree completion program and interactive telecommunication as well as committee work.  Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications.  Applications for this position should be submitted at the following link:  http://jobs.uhd.edu/.  Completed application form, curriculum vitae, copies of all college transcripts and three letters of recommendation must be submitted through this link. Texas State University-San Marcos – The Department of Criminal Justice at Texas State University-San Marcos is accepting applications for the position of Lecturer, beginning August, 2008.

Position/Rank/Salary:  Lecturer.  A full time (9 month) teaching position at the Lecturer rank (renewable annually depending upon department need) beginning in Fall, 2008, to teach three (3) to four (4) courses in each full semester and contribute departmental service as assigned by the department chair.  Teaching will occur primarily at the undergraduate level, but some masters level teaching is also a possibility.  Applicants with teaching capabilities in all areas of criminal justice will be considered, but applicants demonstrating teaching capability in the substantive area of corrections are particularly encouraged to apply.  Salary commensurate with qualifications.

Qualifications:  Required Qualifications - Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a related field.  ABD’s in Criminal Justice or a related field will also be considered.  Preferred QualificationsHigher education teaching experience in field of criminal justice.  Demonstrated ability to teach in specific substantive area of corrections.  Demonstrated ability to teach research methods, either quantitative or qualitative.  Some record of scholarship.

Appointment/Start Date:  August, 2008.
