Criminological Theory, Juvenile Delinquency and Juvenile Justice, and Quantitative Methods
Professor Stafford's major research interests are: deterrence, theory testing, and sex offenders-including public attitudes about sex offenders.
Professor Stafford earned a B.A. in sociology from Southern Methodist University and a M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Arizona. He has held faculty positions at Texas State University, Washington State University, and the University of Texas at Austin, and he has been a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. He has been a Visiting Scholar at the University of Colorado at Boulder and also an IEAT-FORD Chair of Criminality, Violence, and Public Policy at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He has published in Criminology, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Quantitative Criminology, Journal of Criminal Justice, America Sociological Review, Social Forces, and Social Psychological Quarterly. He teaches courses on theories of crime causation, quantitative methods, and law and justice.
