Dr. Summers started working at Texas State University in August 2012. Before this, she spent nine years working at UCL Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science in London, England. Her Ph.D., also from UCL, examined the influence of neighborhood characteristics, offender residence location, availability of public transport network, and configuration of the street network on the spatial distribution of outdoor serious violence. Dr. Summers has also carried out extensive research in the areas of offender targeting decisions, situational crime prevention, and spatio-temporal patterns of both violent and property crime, among others.
