Biography:

Quint Thurman has been Professor of Criminal Justice and Department Chairperson at Texas State University-San Marcos since 2001. He earned the Ph.D. in Sociology from the University at Massachusetts (Amherst) in 1987 and previously had held faculty appointments at Washington State University, Washington State University-Spokane, and Wichita State University. His publications include seven books and more than 35 refereed articles that have appeared in such journals as the American Behavior Scientist, Crime and Delinquency, Criminology and Public Policy, Social Science Quarterly, Justice Quarterly, Police Quarterly, and the Journal of Quantitative Criminology. His most recent, externally-funded endeavors have included national research to examine the effect of federal funding on crime rates (funded by the U.S. Community Oriented Policing Services Office), the use of strategic planning in law enforcement agencies (also funded by the COPS Office), and curriculum development to creat a graduate-level intelligence analysis certificate program at Texas State (funded by the U.S. Department of Defense).
